Are You Smarter Than A 2 Year Old?

Caitlyn likes to look at family photos and point out who is in each photo. This morning (at 5:45 mind you...needless to say Mommy is TIRED) she was pointing to our most recenf family photo. She pointed out Daddy, Mommy, all of her siblings, and then she started saying something I couldn't quite understand. At first I thought Caitlyn was saying "that's me," but that wasn't it because she kept saying "no" and repeating herself.

What was she saying???? She was saying A FAMILY! Duh, Mommy! How smart is that?!? I know that earlier this week at her "school" they were cutting out a family of bears with scissors (yes, my child can use scissors and I'm sure it won't be long before she gives herself a hair cut) and identifying members of a family...looks like she definitely learned something!

How often do we underestimate what children are capable of? Caitlyn's daycare director told me a couple of weeks ago that her center if often criticized for introducing the toddler class to things they are not capable of learning or doing. However, the toddlers most often are able to pick up on what is being introduced. Caitlyn loves her "school" (it's so much more than a daycare) and she loves to play with her friends.

Having said that, this is the THIRD center we have tried in Butte and luckily we finally found a good one! The first child care that Caitlyn was at in Butte lasted 2 days. I went to pick her up one evening and was able to walk in the provider's home, put Caitlyn's coat on, and was almost out the front door before the provider realized someone had walked in her home and was on the way out the door with a child. The next day she informed me that she was going to be out of town and her husband would be watching Caitlyn...NOT!

The second center was okay, but Caitlyn was the victim of a biter. She would come home with bite marks and bruises all over her body. As a result, she started to bite herself when frustrated or angry. We felt like we needed to remove her from an environment where she was obviously being harmed and was in distress as a result.

Okay...got on a tangent. Here's a picture of Caitlyn making Valentine Cards.
